Back Out of the Dark

This record has been a long time coming — and for a while, I genuinely wasn't sure it was coming at all.
It was already in the works when I got a concussion. What I thought would be a setback turned into most of last winter spent in a dark room, unable to do much of anything. The work stalled. An early go at it with another producer fizzled out. For a stretch there, the whole thing felt like it had slipped away from me.
But something happened in that dark room. The record I was chasing before was a different animal — lush, cinematic, almost theatrical. What came out of the other side is rawer and more open. Less velvet curtain, more salt air and a band breathing in the same room. It feels like the truer version of these songs.
I'm in talks with Sandro Perri — an old friend and colleague from our Keys to the Studio days, and a hell of a producer in his own right — about producing it. We're heading into sessions together, and for the first time in a long while, it feels like the thing it was supposed to be all along.
Eight songs. All of them written on a tiny guitar I call Baby Blue. More on all of that soon.
I'm back out of the dark, and I'm glad you're here for it. Subscribe and follow along — there's a lot coming.
